Sawyer's Lorax: Before and After

This is what four years of love can do! You were warned!

The story of the Malisch Lorax (es, ies, lorii.. What is the plural of Lorax?). Also known as "A Tale of Two (well three, oh wait four) Lorax". 

Uncle Josh and Aunt Jenn gave Emmet and Sawyer each one Lorax. They were loved and adored. We labeled them with the boys first initial so we could tell whose was whose. One day at a thrift store I saw a Lorax for 25 cents and I thought, "sweet, a back up!" And bought it and put it in a closet. 

Then one night at bedtime we could not find Sawyer's Lorax - a serious situation. So I grabbed the backup, wrote an "S" on the tag and handed it to Sawyer. Crisis averted! The next day Emmet noticed Sawyer happily walking around with TWO Lorax. He quickly checked the tags so he could claim his... In utter shock that both had an "S" on the tags he screamed... "Sawyer has two Loraxes". It seems Sawyer found the lost one. That night we tried to hide one of Sawyer's but he was insistent that he needed "other Lorax". Sigh, Sawyer officially had two. Occasionally Emmet would protest over the injustice but he got over it. Adam and I were not about to start the horrid "fairness" idea in our home ;)

As the months wore on Emmet lost interest in his Lorax and Sawyer being the kind natured (hoarder) that he is took him in.

In fact the "Lorax with the E" had become his favorite, he named him baby.

Sawyer wearing his baby, heart melting !! In fact, while I was pregnant with Ranger, Sawyer would carry his "Baby" around under his shirt with the Lorax legs dangling out the bottom. What does it mean that Sawyer wanted to carry Emmet's Lorax baby? Brothers... I may never understand them. After Ranger was born, Sawyer started nursing his "Baby". His de-latching technique was hysterical. He would grab the Lorax's legs that were dangling out of the bottom of his shirt, pull the Lorax out, drop it on the floor and say, "baby's done". Some time before Ranger was born, Emmet decided he wanted his Lorax... Drama ensued, it was a tough parenting call, on one side Sawyer had THREE Lorax and on the other side Sawyer was really attached to "Baby". Adam tried putting an E and an S on all three Lorax but alas, Sawyer knew which one was baby. I was pregnant and hormonal and Sawyer's cries for his baby were crushing my heart. I had a sit down with Emmet and discussed how much Baby means to Sawyer and he agreed to not demand it be returned. Thank you thank you sweet Emmet!

So Sawyer has three Lorax and what did he ask for for his fourth birthday??? Another Lorax!! And what did he do with his collection of four Lorax? Gave two to Emmet.
